<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a toner image transferred onto an intermediate transfer belt from having transfer dust in an image forming apparatus which forms a recording image by primarily transferring a toner image formed on an image carrier to the intermediate transfer belt driven to travel in contact with the image carrier and secondarily transferring the toner image on the intermediate transfer belt to a recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: When the range between the most upstream position X and the most downstream position Y in the intermediate transfer belt moving direction of a part of an intermediate transfer belt 4 coming into contact with an image carrier 3Y is defined as a contact area N, a transfer member 13 which abuts against the back part of the intermediate transfer belt 4 in the contact area N and is applied with a transfer voltage having the opposite polarity from the regular charging polarity of toner is used as a primary transfer device which primarily transfers the toner image on the image carrier 3Y to the intermediate transfer belt 4, and a downstream-side destaticizing electrode 24 is provided which abuts against the back part of the intermediate transfer belt 4 downstream from where the transfer member 13 abuts against the intermediate transfer belt 4 in the intermediate transfer moving direction and upstream from the most downstream position Y in the intermediate transfer belt moving direction and is applied with a voltage having the same polarity with the regular charging polarity of the toner. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
