PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine, securing a sufficient decelerating feel during deceleration by stabilizing combustion during deceleration under the conditions of being controlled into a small intake air amount without increasing an intake air amount. SOLUTION: When a throttle valve is at a fully closed position, an idle ON flag is set to be ON (Fig. 2(B)). When the idle ON flag is ON and the simulated temperature of a catalyst arranged in an exhaust passage of the internal combustion engine exceeds a preset criterion (Fig. 2(A)), a catalyst deterioration inhibiting flag is set to be ON (Fig.2(C)) to prohibit deceleration F/C. When the catalyst deterioration inhibiting flag is ON, fuel pressure to be supplied to a fuel injection valve 24 is controlled to be higher than reference fuel pressure during normal operation (Fig. 2(E)).
