PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable intake device sufficiently reducing pressure loss in an intake air line. SOLUTION: The variable intake device has air flow toward a combustion chamber of an engine and is provided with an intake air passage 21 defining first flow line in an middle part 21r in a passage, a short passage 26 defining a second flow line connected to the middle part 21r and extending to a direction crossing the first flow line at connected another end 26n, and a valve 31 arranged in the short passage 26 with adjoining the middle part 21r. The valve 31 includes a valve body 32 regulating air flow. A valve element 32 is positioned to extend in a direction between a direction indicated by an arrow 101 in which the first flow line extends and a direction indicated by an arrow 102 in which the second flow line extends when the valve 31 allows air flow merging to the intake air passage 21 from the short passage 26.
