The method involves finding a path of a play unit within sectors by using an evaluation unit. A sector of the play unit e.g. ball (20), is found by the evaluation unit, when the ball hits a determined target sector identified by cameras. The ball has experienced a direction change on its path before reaching a target sector, on a sector. A signal is then transmitted to an optical and/or acoustic display device by the evaluation unit. An independent claim is also included for a device for tracing play units in a playing field.
