Motor vehicle seat uses common geared shaft for stepless, self-locking adjustment and free adjustment of inclination of backrest

A common geared shaft (22) is operated by a hand wheel (20) to engage with one of two gearwheels (24) and effect stepless, self-locking adjustment of the inclination of a backrest (14). A lever (28) releases engagement of the shaft from the same gearwheel and instead engages the shaft to the other gearwheel to effect free adjustment of the backrest inclination.
