The invention is based on the use of fluids and other media that can be actuated using electromagnetic fields and microfabrication techniques in order to produce devices and integrated circuits which can be used in integrated optics, micro-optics, quasi-guided optics and non-guided optics. The inventive novel devices and integrated circuits are identical to existing devices and circuits in terms of functionality, but the use of the fluids and other media that can be actuated using electromagnetic fields provides increased strength and flexibility and facilitates production.
