Disclosed is a light-transmitting ceramic having high light transmittance. Specifically disclosed is a light-transmitting ceramic mainly containing a perovskite compound having a chemical composition represented by the following general formula: (Ba<SUB>1-s-t</SUB>Sr<SUB>s</SUB>Ca<SUB>t</SUB>)(M<SUB>x</SUB>B1<SUB>y</SUB>B2<SUB>z</SUB>)<SUB>v</SUB>O<SUB>w</SUB> (wherein M includes at least one of Sn, Zr and Hf; B1 represents at least one of Mg, Zn, Y and In; B2 represents at least one of Ta and Nb; 0 = s = 0.99; 0.01 = t = 0.45; x + y + z = 1; 0 < x = 0.9; 1.00 = z/y = 2.40; 0.97 = v = 1.05; and w represents a positive number required for maintaining electroneutrality). This light-transmitting ceramic can be advantageously used as an objective lens (2) for an optical pickup (9).
