PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a DVD recorder capable of recording data on a DVD more simply. SOLUTION: The DVD recorder is provided with an automatic control means (CPU 6 and automatic format/finalizing program 8J) which makes a determining means (determination program 8B) to determine whether a DVD 9 is recordable on the basis of the input of a prescribed start signal, and executes automatic control processing for continuously performing format processing of the DVD 9 by a formatting means (CPU 6 and format program 8F), data write processing onto the DVD 9 after finishing the format processing by a writing means (reading/writing part 3, CPU 6 and writing program 8G) and finalizing processing after finishing the write processing by a finalizing means (CPU 6 and finalizing program 8H) when the DVD 9 is determined to be recordable.
