In a telephone system with at least one monitoring apparatus (LEMF) for monitoring payload data exchanged between at least two subscribers (A, B) a network node is provided to send information on the codec type that has been selected by said at least two subscribers for their call to the monitoring apparatus and that a copy of the payload data is send unmodified to the monitoring apparatus.
