A differential assembly with a semi-elliptical assembly window is provided to reduce maximum bending stress by optimizing a structure of an assembly window. A differential assembly is used for transferring rotatory energy from a drive shaft to an axle shaft. The differential assembly includes a differential case. The differential case includes at least two openings formed therein in order to provide an access to a chamber thereof. A plurality of gears pass through the openings and are retained in the chamber. One of the openings is defined by a semi-elliptical segment having ends interconnected by a pair of elongated segments. The elongated segments are interconnected by an arcuate segment.
