PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the method which can provide an absorber with a simple composition and the absorber is not contaminated with a mist by applying an optimal absorption force with the kind of a paper medium and the amount of inks placed on a recording medium, for an ink-jet printer which mounts an elecrostatic absorption platen preventing a cockling by making the recording medium absorbed by the platen using an electrostatic absorption during printing. SOLUTION: Electrodes for electrostatic absorption are arranged on the platen with an absorption force generating means in parallel to the direction of absorption and delivery. Each of the electrodes is connected to a high-voltage power supply, and ON/OFF circuit is provided for every one pair of them (combination of + and -). The circuit for controlling an electrostatic charge domain establishes the domain from media size and makes the voltage applied to the electrodes adjustable according to the kind of media and the amount of inks placed on the recording medium. Then, an optimal voltage value is abstracted from the table which has been prepared beforehand according to the kind of media size and the amount of inks placed, and the voltage is applied to the electrodes.
