Very small repeated unevenness, or an outer shape abnormality, of a sidewall section (S) of a pneumatic tire (T) is detected. A high degree analysis is performed by a degree analysis means (24) based on a waveform obtained by measuring, along the circumferential direction of the pneumatic tire (T), unevenness of the sidewall section (S) of the tire (T), and a value of the very fine unevenness of that degree is obtained. When the value of the very fine unevenness exceeds an allowable value, it is determined that there is an outer shape abnormality. The pneumatic tire (T) where very fine unevenness of a certain order that exceeds an allowable value is repeatedly formed in the circumferential direction on the sidewall section (S) can be easily and reliably eliminated as a defective tire. |
