The valve has a spindle including a massive section and a hollow section adjacent to the massive section. The hollow section is closed and a part of a heat pipe system. The hollow section openly merges into a valve head. A surface of the valve head is enlarged at its inner side, and a micro porous surface structure is provided at the inner side. The hollow section has a microporous capillary action promoting surface. An independent claim is also included for a method for operation of a gas exchange valve in an internal combustion engine.
