<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switching device capable of preventing an erroneous operation of a capacitance sensor. <P>SOLUTION: An electric slide door device is provided with a door panel 4 opening/closing an entrance formed on a vehicle body. An end part 4a at the front side in the moving direction in a closing operation of the door panel 4 is provided with a foreign body detection sensor 41. The foreign body detection sensor 41 is provided with a sensor main body 44 forming a coaxial cable shape. The sensor main body 44 is provided with a sensor electrode 53. The foreign body detection sensor 41 detects an object to be detected on the basis of the variation of capacitance between the sensor electrode 53 and a conductive foreign body 110 adjacent the sensor electrode 53. A guard electrode 102 is provided between the door panel 4 and the sensor electrode 53.
