PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a user to designate an arbitrary location irrespective to a unit and the present reproducing location as a reproducing start location of a medium to which recording is executed at each predetermined unit. SOLUTION: In the case that a direct search reproduction command for instructing the start of reproduction from the reproduction start location expressed by a CTL standard is evaluated by a command appreciating unit 51. A direct search control unit 52 identifies to which title of one or more titles existing in a DVD31 the reproduction start location designated by the CTL standard by such an instruction corresponds, and also identifies to which GOP among one or more GOPs forming the identified title such a reproduction start location corresponds. The reproduction control unit 53 controls the start of reproduction from the head of the identified GOP within the identified titles in the DVD31.
