The nucleic acid probe of the invention is a nucleic acid probe for detecting a trace amount of target nucleic acid highly sensitively, highly accurately, and highly quickly, and is designed so that the nucleic acid probe undergoes a conformational change after hybridization to the target nucleic acid, the nucleic acid probe, which underwent the conformational change, has a decreased binding strength of hybridization and dissociates from the target nucleic acid. Further, the nucleic acid probe can hybridize to the target nucleic acid, and includes a cleavage portion, and a signal-generating portion from which a signal is generated, where the cleavage portion is cleaved upon hybridization to the target nucleic acid and generates a first probe fragment and a second probe fragment, at least one of which is capable of dissociating from the target nucleic acid. Further, the nucleic acid probe includes a cleavage portion, which is cleaved upon hybridization to the target nucleic acid, and has formed a locked structure as a result of intramolecular hybridization of the portions of the nucleic acid probe to each other until the nucleic acid probe hybridizes to the target nucleic acid.
