<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent substance which has a garnet structure and can be used for various uses. <P>SOLUTION: This fluorescent substance represented by the following general formula. The light-emitting device comprises an light-emitting element and a fluorescent substance absorbing at least one of the light of the light-emitting element and emitting light having a different wavelength.
