PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology of embedding multi-value watermark information of binary or over according to a gradation value. SOLUTION: The watermark information is configured by arranging a plurality of line segment patterns. The outward form of the line segment pattern is, e.g. a quadrangle and the line segment pattern comprises the quadrangle and a plurality of line segments tying a point on one side of the quadrangle with a point of another side. When the line segment patterns are arranged, the line segment patterns are arranged such that line segments of the line segment patterns adjacent to each other are not discontinuous.
