PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a peripheral-area information providing system capable of indicating area guide information at the place of a user and capable of avoiding the useless use or the like of radio waves, and a device for the peripheral-area information providing system. SOLUTION: The peripheral-area information providing system is composed of an area-information storage section storing area-information data displayed as waiting screens on display sections for portable telephones in response to identification codes for each relay base station, respectively, a transmitter-receiver transmitting and receiving various data among the portable telephones and a code identifying processor conducting specified processing on the basis of the identification codes receiving indicating-demand information from the portable telephones. The system is further composed of an extractor extracting the area-information data of the relay base stations corresponding to the received identification codes from the area-information storage device and an information transmitting processor conducting the processing for transmitting the extracted area-information data to the portable telephones. The system is further composed of a user-information storage device recording the identification codes of the received relay base stations at each user and a user-information processor reading and rewriting the identification codes recorded on the user-information storage device at each user.
