PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reproduce information data recorded on an optical disk without interrupting the reproduction of the information data by preliminarily detecting amounts of scratch, stain, etc., of the optical disk and adjusting a servo gain in accordance with the amount of detected scratch, stain, etc., of the optical disk. SOLUTION: The reproduction of the information data is carried out in such a manner that the optical pickup is moved to the reproduction address of the optical disk; a tracking servo is made off and the optical disk is rotated once to detect the level change of reflected light, and scratch detection data with respect to the reproduction address of the detected optical disk are stored; the tracking servo gain is adjusted in accordance with the scratch detection data with respect to the reproduction address of the optical disk being stored; and the information data recorded on the optical disk are read to accumulate these read out information data, then the accumulated information data are sequentially reproduced.
