PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a so-called coating type magnetic recording medium wherein a magnetic layer (3) contains ferromagnetic powder and a binder and the thickness is reduced and dimensional change caused by environmental change of temperature and humidity is small. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium (10) includes a non-magnetic support (1), the magnetic layer (3), reinforcement layers (2, 5) and a back coat layer (6). When Young's moduli in the longitudinal direction and the lateral direction of the magnetic recording medium are denoted as Emd1(Gpa) and Etd1 (Gpa), respectively, when the thickness of the magnetic recording medium is denoted as T1 (mm) and when Young's moduli in the longitudinal direction and the lateral direction of the non-magnetic support (1) are denoted as Emd2 and Etd2, respectively, the reinforcement layers (2, 5) are formed so that 1.1≤Etd1/Emd1≤1.5, 35≤Emd1×T1, and 1.5≤Etd2/Emd2≤2.5 are satisfied to obtain the magnetic recording medium (10).
