A pressure sensor (3) includes fiber optic cables woven or bonded into a seatbelt (1). The sensor detects seatbelt pressure acted on the seated occupant, and provides output signals needed for controlling the seatbelt tension and/or adjusting the positions of the seatbelt interconnect points (4,5a,5b) with respect to e.g. a lower door cross beam, a seatbelt retractor (8), upper door cross beam.
