The network node (KM) is used to transfer optical bursts to other network nodes (K1-KN) included in an optical ring network. The network node transmits optical bursts to destination node based on the first header of the first burst and after a predetermined waiting period. The waiting period in the network node corresponds to a value which is the sum of the waiting period in the destination node, and the product from the maximum burst cycle and the number of nodes arranged between the network node and destination node. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) Optical ring network; and (2) Optical burst transmission method.
