<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display method for a thumbnail image or the like which does not lose processing performance, operability, and viewability. <P>SOLUTION: With respect to a document file (the number of files N), a time for generating a thumbnail image (hereafter S) is predicted (a step 100). Then, 1 is substituted for (n) (a step 102) and it is decided whether or not the time for S generation of the document file (n) is within a threshold time. When the document file (n) is within the threshold time, a corresponding S is in initial display to a document display part (a step 106). On the other hand, when the document file (n) is not within the threshold time, a corresponding icon (hereafter I) is in initial display to a temporary display area (a step 108).
