<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reading generation device that can generate a proper reading matching the situation of a user even when character string data include a number string, and a reading generation method and a computer program. <P>SOLUTION: Character string data including number strings are received and a plurality of words partially matching the received character string data are extracted from a word dictionary; when there is a number string part for which a partially matching word can not be extracted among the number strings included in the received character string data, a similar word which is similar to the number string part for which no partially matching word can not be extracted is extracted from the word dictionary and words constituting the received character string data are specified on the basis of the plurality of extracted words and the similar word to set readings of the plurality of extracted words, thereby generating a number reading rule as a rule related to readings of number strings included in a plurality of similar words. On the basis of the generated number reading rule, readings of the number strings included in the character string data are set.
