PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating method and a coating apparatus in which the soiling of a web under transportation by the splashing of a liquid, suction unevenness due to the liquid flowing-in to a suction port, step like coating ununiformity or the like do not occur. SOLUTION: In the coating method for carrying out the coating by bringing a flat part of a die head tip close to a backup roll, a partition plate having the height≥1/5 to <1 of the depth of a pressure reduced chamber is provided inside the chamber, a waste liquid is received and discharged into and from a division of the chamber in the die head side which is separated by the partition plate and has a bottom surface area >1/2 to≤3/4 of that of the whole chamber.
