Provided are a method for mass-preparing a titanate of nano structure having high specific surface area and easily controlled nano-form, with low cost and high efficiency, and a method for preparing a titanium oxynitride having high specific surface area which exhibits high optical activity at region of visible rays by using the titanate. The method for preparing a titanate comprises hydrothermally synthesizing a mixture solution formed by mixing titanium precursor and ammonia water with solvent. The titanium precursor is at least one selected from the group consisting of titanium oxysulfate, titanium sulfate, titanium alkoxide, and titanium halide. Amount of the ammonia water is 2-25 mol based on 1 mol of the titanium precursor. The solvent is a distilled water, an alcohol, or mixture thereof. Amount of the solvent is 50-500 mol based on 1 mol of the titanium precursor. The reaction temperature and time of the hydrothermal synthesis are 80-200 deg.C and 0.1-10 hours, respectively. The method for preparing the titanium oxynitride comprises firing the titanate prepared by the method.
