PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material recording apparatus and a material recording method that reduces a time required for recording and editing a video material such as video contents. SOLUTION: An optical disk apparatus 2 for recording the video contents and a computer 3 are connected via a network 900. The computer 3 receives video clip data and proxy AV data with a low resolution from the optical disk apparatus 2, applies streaming reproduction to the data as a live video image, receives an essence mark as metadata at an optional position of the proxy AV data and describes the result to a metadata file.
