PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to detect precisely an abnormality in clearance of a brake by the simple constitution. SOLUTION: A brake clearance detector detects the brake clearance of a brake system having the fluid pressure resource 30 connected with the brake mechanism 20 by a fluid pressure line 34 through a control valve 31, which is installed in the fluid pressure line 34. The detector has the first pressure detection means 1 to detect the first pressure value and the second pressure detecting means 2 to detect the second pressure value, both of which are installed in the line 34, and the condition of the brake clearance is judged on the basis of the time difference that each pressure value is detected. It can be determined whether the clearance is normal or abnormal by comparing the time lag with the detection time lag when the clearance becomes abnormal. The clearance abnormality can be detected by the simple constitution to measure the pressure and it has the effect that the detector can be installed on the existing unit with a low cost.
