PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a torque converter capable of controlling a lockup clutch and a brake by a simple structure. SOLUTION: This torque converter 1 comprises an output member 20 and a stator 40 having a pump 12 and a turbine 21 and receiving an input from an input member 10 through a fluid to rotate about a rotating shaft 2, the lockup clutch 30 capable of transmitting a drive force directly from the input member 10 to an output member 20 by the rotation thereof together with the output member 20 and the engagement thereof with the input member 10, and a stator clutch 50 capable of adding a rotating resistance by the engagement thereof with the stator 40. The lockup clutch 30 and the stator clutch 50 change the engagement force of the input member 10 with the stator 40 according to a differential pressure between a lockup on pressure and a lockup off pressure inside the torque converter 1.
