PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To read ID of articles without obstructing the delivery of the articles and traveling of an overhead traveling vehicle, and to allocate a conveyance command to the overhead traveling vehicle before articles to be retrieved to a load port are determined. SOLUTION: In the overhead traveling vehicle 20, an ID reader 53 capable of being advanced/retreated is provided in a dropping prevention cover 50 of the overhead traveling vehicle 20. The ID reader 53 is retreated inside the cover 50 at the time of lifting/lowering of an article 70, and advanced to a lower part of the article 70 at the time of reading. Therefore, since the overhead traveling vehicle 20 can read the ID of the article 70, accurate and flexible conveyance can be achieved without tracking. In addition, even if a conveyance command with respect to an article which is not be retrieved to the load port is allocated to the overhead traveling vehicle 20, this can not cause confusion.
