There is provided a clear two-dimensional code which can be merged with an image without giving a user an uncomfortable feeling when it is attached to the image and in which a readable state and the like can be arbitrarily set. There are also disclosed an article having the two-dimensional code, a method for printing the two-dimensional code, and a display method. The two-dimensional code has base cells and data cells arranged in a matrix. The base cells or the data cells are clear. The two-dimensional code can be read only when the color of the clear cells and the color of the non-clear cells have a contrast which can be read by a code recognition device.
