PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a luminaire with an elevation device for allowing horizontal winding of a wire in suspension of a light fixture by a single wire and allowing easy embedment in a ceiling. SOLUTION: The light fixture 2 is suspended by the single wire 8. A fixture main body 1 is provided with a pulley on which the wire 8 is looped. An elevation unit 3 has a drum 19, which is arranged in the side part of the fixture main body 1 to wind/unwind the wire 8 hung on the pulley for lifting/lowering the light fixture 2, and a motor 20 normally/reversely rotating the drum 19. In the elevation unit 3, the drum 19 is positioned apart from the fixture main body 1, while the motor 20 is positioned close to the fixture main body 1, and the motor 19 and the drum 19 are coupled together via a speed reduction gear 25.
