A printer for printing character information on an optical disk (D) using an ink cartridge. The printer comprises a printer cover (5) for opening/closing a cartridge receiving section into which the ink cartridge will be loaded. When the ink cartridge is loaded into the cartridge receiving section, the cover (5) is closed and then the optical disk (D) is inserted into the printer. Then, printing is started. The cover (5) is engaged with the printer body (2) in a closed state. The cover (5) is disengaged by operating an operation button (27a). When the optical disk (D) is inserted into the printer body (2), an inlet cover (23a) is pushed by the optical disk (D) so as to be upstanding. This causes a lock member (31a) to protrude so as to engage with the operation button (27a), thereby locking the operation button (27a) and hence rendering the cover (5) unopenable.
