<p>1,013,588. Needle threaders. SINGER CO. Oct. 1, 1964 [Oct. 8, 1963], No. 39935/64. Heading D1G. A needle threader comprises a flexible resilient medium formed with opposed surfaces, means for urging said surfaces into mutual engagement, means for defining a linear thread path between said surfaces, and means for sustaining a needle to be threaded with the needle eye in alignment with said path, the sustained needle and resilient medium being movable relative to one another in the direction of the thread path to effect threading of the needle. A base 20 has side flanges 21, 22 which support respective rubber blocks 25, 26 and are so positioned that the opposed surfaces of the blacks are urged into mutual engagement. Base 20 also has end flanges 30, 31 so dimensioned that a thread 40 stretched therebetween lies in a linear path between said surfaces and the eye of a sewing machine needle 11, with the point of the latter shutting base 20, is disposed on said path. In use, a thread is initially stretched between the flanges 30, 31 and is then drawn lengthwise until its face and 41 is disposed between the blocks 25, 26. A needle to be threaded is then positioned with its point shutting base 20, and its eye aligned with the thread path. The needle is then moved towards the blocks and in passing therebetween the thread end 41 passes through the needle eye and is gripped between said surfaces on the other side of the eye, when further movement of the needle serves to complete the threading operation. For threading a hand sewing needle, the device is so proportioned that the butt end of the needle engages base 20.</p> |
