<p>A latch includes a latch bolt having a closed position and an open position, a pawl having an engaged position wherein the pawl retains the latch bolt in the closed position and a released position wherein the pawl allows the latch bolt to move from the closed position, and an energy storage device. The latch further includes a first drive path operable to couple the energy storage device to the pawl such that the energy storage device acts by releasing energy to assist movement of the pawl from the engaged position to the released position. The latch also includes a second drive path operable to couple the latch bolt to the energy storage device such that during at least a part of the movement of the latch bolt from the closed position to the open position, the latch bolt acts to restore the energy in the energy storage device.</p> |
