<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve washout near the outer periphery of the effective display area in a liquid crystal display screen, in particular, washout due to the heat by a backlight, and to obtain favorable display quality. <P>SOLUTION: The display apparatus is equipped with: a liquid crystal display element having a pair of substrates 1, 2 laminated with a sealing material 12 in the peripheral part of the effective display area and a liquid crystal layer (liquid crystal) 13 filling the space between the substrates; and a backlight (light source) 17. The thickness of the liquid crystal layer in the effective display area and near the whole or a part of the outer peripheral area of the effective display area is made larger by 0.05 to 0.2 μm than the thickness in the center part of the effective display area. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
