A zoom lens and an image pickup device are provided to magnify an image by installing a lens group having a negative refracting power on the upper surface of a focus group. A zoom lens includes a first lens group(GR1) having a positive refracting power, a second lens group(GR2) having a negative refracting power, a fourth lens group(GR4), that is a focus group, arranged after a third lens group, and a movable sixth lens groups(GR6) positioned at the image side of the focus group and having a negative refracting power. The zoom lens has a macro mode in which the zoom lens is focused at a shorter distance than an ordinary region by integrally moving a macro lens group consisting of the second to sixth lens groups from the position of a telephotograph end towards an object side while the first lens group is fixed at the telephotograph end.
