The invention relates to a surface-modified filler composition for thermoplastic olefins or thermoplastic elastomers which comprises halogen- free, flame-inhibiting filler which has been treated with a surface modifier comprising a fatty acid compound and a siloxane derivative, or with a fatty acid derivati ve and optionally a siloxane derivative. Hydroxides of aluminum or magnesium may be used as the halogen-free, flame-inhibiting filler and these may be mixed with one or more oxide of aluminum, magnesium, titanium or zirconium, or with other filler materials.
