An LCD is provided to reduce the thickness of a polarizing plate even while sufficiently protecting the polarizing plate, by substituting an adhesive layer for one of two protective films, which are to be attached onto both surfaces of the polarizing plate. A liquid crystal layer(300) is interposed between a first substrate(100) and a second substrate(200). A first polarizing plate(400) is composed of a first polarization film(410), a first protective film(420) provided on one surface of the first polarization film, and a first adhesive layer(430) provided on the other surface of the first polarization film. The first polarizing plate is attached onto the first substrate with the first adhesive layer therebetween. A second polarizing plate(500) is composed of a second polarization film(510), a second protective film(520) provided on one surface of the second polarization film, and a second adhesive layer(530) provided on the other surface of the second polarization film. The second polarizing plate is attached onto the second substrate with the second adhesive layer therebetween. |
