In the present invention, there is disclosed an apparatus for moistening freely flowing bulk solids especially ash dust removed by filters from power station gases. The dust descends through a gravity pipe (6) which has an upper ring section (2) and a lower ring section (3), linked by an annular jet (1) gap through which water is introduced. The descending pipe (6) is surrounded by a water jacket (5) discharging to the annular jet (1). The ring sections (2, 3) forming the annular jet (1) gap are separate sections whose axial distance from each other is varied as required, forming a gap (7) between the two. The rims of the ring sections (2, 3) adjacent to the gap (7) have castellated edges with notched passages (4). The surrounding water tank (5) comprises two separate mantles (8, 9) which move axially back and forth in the direction of the descending pipe (6) and coming together. Each part of the water tank mantle is joined to one of the ring sections (2, 3). Ash descends through the pipe (6) in free fall passing the annular jet (1) through which water is sprayed to form a veil, uniformly wetting the dust. Additional water, taken from e.g. the sulfur dioxide gas washer, is mixed with a granular additive and introduced to the pipe (1) through the castellated passages (4) in the annular gap (7). |
