A method and a device for security using an SMS(Short Message Service) are provided to authenticate and manage use of an image forming device by using a text message transmitted through the SMS. A receiver(100) receives the text message including data for identifying a sender. An authentication list storing part(105) stores a list of the authenticated users of the image forming device. A user authenticator(110) determines whether the sender is the authenticated user of the image forming device by comparing the list stored in the authentication list storing part with the received data. The authentication list storing part stores a management right of the image forming device for the authenticated users. A right determiner(120) determines whether the sender has the right for managing the image forming device if a command is included in the text message. A management controller(140) performs a task for managing the image forming device according to the command if the sender has the management right.
