An apparatus and a method for grouping phone numbers by using scanning are provided to conveniently group registered phone numbers in a low-price facsimile having only a black and white output function and a scan function. A printing unit(100) reads a set user-classified phone number list, and outputs a printed object of a record type, including phone number information, having one or more set group regions. A grouping unit(200) scans the printed object in which "user marking" is performed in each group region to perform user-classified grouping, groups the printed object according to the "user marking" indicated in the group region, and updates a phone number list again.
