A dispenser (2), having a liquid feed (10), an outlet (6) for drawing off a required quantity, and a filter system (12), incorporates an emitter (18) and receiver (22) that form a radio frequency identification (RFID) system that monitors the filter and determines at least one parameter of its operation. The RFID system identifies the type of filter and measures, for example, the duration of filter use, setting off a warning signal if the incorrect filter is used or if it has exceeded its scheduled service life.
