Disclosed is a sustained release suspension composition consisting of ceftiofur or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, tocopherol or a derivative thereof, and a biocompatible oil wherein the tocopherol or the derivative therof is selected from the group consisting of alpha-tocopherol, beta-tocopherol, gamma-tocopherol, delta-tocopherol, alpha-tocopherol succinate and tocopherol acetate, and mixtures thereof with the proviso that compositions in the form of emulsions rather than suspensions are disclaimed.
