The method involves capturing an image of an iris of an eye by an image sensor, where the image corresponds to lighting of the iris by a light beam and the direction of the lighting of the light beam forms a non-zero angle with an optical axis of the image sensor. Hue of light intensities generated by the light beam on the iris is analyzed for the captured image, and a three-dimensional shape of the iris is generated based on the analysis. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for recording a three-dimensional shape of an iris of an eye (2) a device for acquiring a three-dimensional shape of an iris of an eye.
