The backrest has a support sheet (20) formed of a frame (21) having two lateral wires (22). Lower ends (23) and upper ends of the wires are connected to an armature. The end (23) is anchored to a lower crosspiece (12) of the armature and the upper end is connected to the armature by connecting wires (30) arranged in a manner to elastically deform the wires to bend the sheet with respect to the armature when a load is applied on the sheet. The wires (30) have a horizontal branch (31) maintained against a horizontal upper wire by hooks (41).
