The use of a composition comprising at least one non-flavonoid antioxidant and at least one flavonoid for the manufacture of a medicament for the reduction, treatment or prevention of at least one adverse effect of ionizing radiation where the adverse effect of radiation is one of free radical damage, inflammation, pain, burning, hyperlagesia, a decrease in microcirculation, ulcers, lesions, destabilization of cell membranes, cell damage and DNA damage. Also disclosed is a method for reducing, treating or preventing at least one adverse effect of radiation in a non-human animal.
