A method for managing files within an external memory in a mobile communication terminal is provided to maintain attributes, set in a PC, and to configure a list to correspond to the attribute when reading the file within the external memory and handing the file after mounting the external memory on the mobile communication terminal, and change/release the attributes, thereby easily protecting the files within the external memory. A method for managing files within an external memory in a mobile communication terminal comprises the following steps of: confirming a file read command of a user at a corresponding PC and reading the file within the external memory before displaying the file when the external memory, mountable on the mobile communication terminal, is connected with the PC(S21,S22); confirming file selecting and attribute setting commands of the user at the PC and setting the attributes of the selected file before applying the attributes(S23,S24); confirming the file read command of the user in the mobile communication terminal when the external memory is mounted on the mobile communication terminal, and reading the attributes of the file within the external memory before configuring/displaying a file list and attribute information(S25~S28); and confirming file selecting and attribute changing commands or a release command of the user in the mobile communication terminal, and changing/releasing the attribute of the selected file before applying the attribute(S29,S30).
