Disclosed is a biocidal composition consisting of at least oxine copper, and methane sulphonic acid ("MSA") wherein the ratio of x:y, where x is weight of MSA and y is weight of oxine copper, has x below 10 when y is treated as 1. Also disclosed are uses of the above composition to prevent or reduce fungal growth, fungal discolouration and/or fungal damage in a matrix or substrate by way of coating or impregnation. In particular the composition is useful for the treatment of lumber.
